Open day in the ETSIT

15/04/2015

The Visual Telecommunication Application Group (G@TV) and the RTVE Chair have participated in the open day organized by the ETSIT, on April 15th. This event intended to show future students an overview of the educational and professional activities which are carried out in our university. The promotion of technological vocations is precisely one of the main objectives of the RTVE Chair in the ETSIT-UPM, which was signed last January and which continues the intense collaboration that RTVE and G@TV have maintained during recent years.

For this occasion and given the objectives of the event, RTVE moved a modern HD mobile unit with the corresponding auxiliary mobile unit and a soundproof generator. RTVE also deployed four cameras that were used to produce the signal of the welcoming ceremony held in the main hall of the ETSIT. The signal from the realization in the mobile unit was led through a fibre optic cable to the G@TV laboratories in building D, where it was encoded in real time and was multiplexed with a ultra high definition channel (UHDTV)/4K, using the own means of the group. The resulting stream, which included the two channels (that is, the UHDTV channel and the welcoming live ceremony), was broadcast in real time from the roof of the building D, thanks to the temporary license available to the Chair. Probably, it is the first time in Spain that the DVB-T2 transmission standard was used for live broadcast.

The LG manufacturer provided two screens for this occasion. One of them was in the lobby of the university, along with other stands, and the other was inside the auditorium.

Both the cameras and the technical control were operated by students of the ETSIT, as it was a great opportunity to introduce professional TVE equipment to future and current students.
